AUSTIN — Ganado finished the job Thursday afternoon at Red & Charline McCombs Field, capturing the UIL Class 2A Division I State Championship with a 5-2 victory over Bosqueville in a matchup between two of the state’s premier softball programs.  This is the program’s second state title in a row.

The Maidens used aggressive early pressure, capitalized on defensive miscues, and leaned on dominant pitching from ace Saylor Bures to secure the state title and complete a remarkable postseason run.

Bures, who was named the UIL Class 2A Division I State Championship Game MVP, delivered a performance worthy of the honor. The Ganado standout tossed a complete game while allowing just two runs on six hits with no walks and 11 strikeouts across seven innings. She threw 82 strikes in 110 pitches and controlled the game from the opening inning through the final out.

Ganado wasted no time taking control of the championship game. In the top of the first inning, the Maidens plated two runs despite not recording a hit in the frame. Laci Holt scored the game’s first run after a throwing error allowed Kalyn Benavides to reach base and advance to second. Moments later, Raelynn Peters scored on another Bosqueville error, giving Ganado an early 2-0 advantage.

The Maidens struck again in the third inning and delivered what proved to be the decisive stretch of the game. Paisley Hajovsky delivered the biggest offensive swing of the afternoon with a two-run single to shallow left field, scoring Kyla Stancik and Peters while extending the lead to 4-0. Later in the inning, Avery Torres executed a bunt that resulted in an RBI fielder’s choice to push the advantage to 5-0.

Hajovsky finished the championship game 2-for-4 with three RBIs and scored once, accounting for the majority of Ganado’s offense. Torres added an RBI, while Jordyn Bundick collected a double as Ganado made the most of its five-hit performance.

Bosqueville battled back in the fifth inning and briefly generated momentum. Carly Collins and Landry White each singled to set the table before Deja Torres ripped a two-run double to center field, trimming the deficit to 5-2 and bringing the Bulldogs back within striking distance.

But every time Bosqueville threatened, Bures answered.

The Ganado ace consistently overpowered hitters with a dominant mix of velocity and command, helping the Maidens close out the championship victory. Bosqueville managed six hits in the contest, with Collins and White each recording two-hit performances. Torres drove in both Bulldog runs with her fifth-inning double.

Ganado’s defense also came through in key moments, turning away multiple scoring opportunities while overcoming an offensive day where the Maidens hit just .172 as a team. Ganado advanced runners efficiently, capitalized on pressure situations, and made Bosqueville pay for five defensive errors.

The championship adds another historic accomplishment to an already memorable season for Ganado, which consistently proved itself as one of the state’s most complete teams throughout the year. From a dominant regular season to a deep playoff run filled with clutch performances, the Maidens closed their season on the biggest stage with a state title trophy in hand.
